Sunlight is the catalyst that employs water from a tree‘s root system to change carbon dioxide into oxygen and glucose. An element man cannot live without, oxygen, is a significant consequence of this process! In addition to oxygen to sustain life for man, the glucose made here becomes the life-generating food for trees. This entire process is known as photosynthesis. The green color so obvious in most leaves at early stages of development is the result of chlorophyll, an important chemical to photosynthesis.

Nature communicates to trees that shorter days translate into the fall season. This signals for trees to begin preparing for winter. Without abundant natural light, photosynthesis cannot occur throughout the winter.

Yet another crucial element of the photosynthesis process is challenged in the winter because cold weather can inhibit the root system’s ability to draw water. Without photosynthesis, the food chain for trees is removed. Because trees regularly store additional food during the photosynthesis season, trees have few worries of a food shortage throughout winters.

The need for the chemical chlorophyll, the source of green in leaves, is erased when photosynthesis ceases. It disappears from the leaves. The removal of chlorophyll from leaves parallels the loss of green coloring. Keep in mind that removing green from the leaf doesn‘t change the leaf’s original color! The fall colors you see in leaves is the real deal when those same leaves aren‘t subjugated to the strong color of green. Once that is removed, you are left with the Fall leaves real color!
