You can get 240 washes out of the cartridge (rather than the usual 120) if you set it on Cat Activation.
This is a “smart setting” that knows when your cat has used it, and then cleans it out. The filters used by this product are biodegradable, so you can be assured that they’re gentle on the environment. So the CatGenie 120 has kept the advantages of the original unit and made some convenient improvements.
The main disadvantage of CatGenie is the cost, not only of purchasing it, but of running and maintaining it. When you have a litter box, there’s no power, water or other technology to worry about. CatGenie, on the other hand, uses up both, as you have to plug it in, and every time it goes through a cleaning cycle it’s using up water. Another regular expense are the filters, which will have to replaced about every other month with a single cat, more often with additional cats. These are factors you should consider before buying CatGenie; you get a convenient device, but you do have to pay for it. Overall the CatGenie’s innovative design is a great alternative to the traditional litter box. You need to weigh the benefits of the CatGenie against the cost when you think about getting one. You never have to clean a stinky litter box again and your home will never smell like a dirty litter box again either.
