Considering Buying A Betta Fish?
Betas can be the best pets in the world. A major concern of people considering buying a betta fish as a pet is the amount of effort it takes to care for betta fish. This can put many people off, and perhaps it is beginning to put you off the prospect of buying a betta fish, however I urge you to reconsider, especially if thoughts of caring for the betta fish have put you off. In reality, caring for betta fish can be quite simple if you break it down into some simple categories such as diet, tank selection and maintenance.
Diet Plan
Betta fish need to be fed on a regular basis just like any other pet fish you’ve had. Most people don’t realise that you need to feed your betta the specific amount of food that is shown on the packet, because if too much is put in the tank, then it will grow bacteria and cause harm to your betta.
Betta fish can eat a number of different foods, and varying their diet will help improve their lifespan. I feed my betta a number of different foods, such as dried food for example betta pellets and also foods such as dried shrimp.
How to Maintain and Choose a Good Betta Tank
Your betta tank needs to be at least ten gallons in volume. Do not put lots of extra things in the tank such as gravel or toy accessories, as this can lead to pollution of the water. Ensure that the tank pump and filter go through at least one full cycle before you put your betta in, because it will get ammonia poisoning from the filter if you put it in straight away. It is important to keep the tank temperature at 80 degrees Fahrenheit.
Co-habitation
Do not put your betta fish together. Betta fish are reffered to as Siamese Fighting Fish for a reason! If you put two betta fish in the same tank, they will fight to the death. It may seem like a good idea, but if you want your betta fish to survive, then don’t do it!
The only exception is of course betta fish breeding! Caution must be taken when breeding betta fish, because once they have finished breeding, the male will try to kill the female betta! This is the main reason why betta fish breeding is so hard.
You must be proficient at betta care before you begin to breed betta fish. For more information on breeding betta fish then please visit the site.
It is really important that you follow the advice in this article, as it will determine the success of your betta ownership!
